Orienteering
is an eco-friendly sport practiced in close contact with
the environment, that becomes, in the majority of cases,
part of the sport itself.
The natural environments in which the competitions take place
are often of high naturalistic importance and involve a big number
of participants and spectators (up to thousands of people in
important occasions). It is therefore of paramount importance
the correct assessment, and the consequent reduction to a minimum,
of the impact that this type of competitions might have on the
environment.
Furthermore, Orienteering has acquired with time good environmental
credentials: for its own nature, this sport aims to achieve
good practices of environmental sustainability giving particular
attention
on environmental education and consciousness.
Consequently, the organizers of the “5 giorni della Valle
di Non” that will take place in Coredo from the 2nd to
the 9th of July 2005, has decided to elaborate a project aimed
to minimize the environmental impact of this important sport
event.
The purpose of the organizers is to reduce to a minimum the environmental
impact of the event on a wide number of variables.
We have identified eight areas of intervention: 1. Natural environment protection 2. Reduction of consumption goods and of the
total amount of
wastage 3. Differentiated wastage collection 4. Reduction of polluting emissions 5. Conditioning of the event suppliers 6. Education and instruction of the participants, organizational
staff and spectators 7. Eco-friendly awards 8. Final assessment
The environmental communication campaign involves:
Information leaflets (in English and Italian):
Printed on recycled paper, will explain on one side the most
important aspects of the environmental sustainability project
and, on the other, will present simple suggestions on the rules
of good environmental behaviour to follow during the event. Download
Support information panels:
Information panels will be placed by the “ecological islands”,
the competition field and the surrounding areas. They will provide
simple suggestions on the rules of good environmental behaviour
in both English and Italian. Download
Vademecum for the organizers:
Aimed at the different event operators, they contain specific
eco-friendly rules to be followed in the different sectors (e.g.
kitchens, offices, etc.). Download

Points: Gazeboes will be placed around the competition
field and the surrounding areas, where it is possible to
find information leaflets, useful information on the environmental
sustainability project and on the rules of good environmental
behaviour to follow during the event.
Environmental Questionnaire: Please fill it in and send it to info@oripredaia.it, to have
your say in our eco-friendly project!
